Jason Bugeja was born in Attard, Malta in 1978 and has since lived in Mġarr, a lovely village surrounded by beautiful countryside views. At the age of 13, Jason started showing interest in music and took digital organ lessons. At the age of 16, he started playing in a restaurant in Buġibba. As he gained experience, he played in different hotels and bars both as a soloist and as a duo with a guitarist, female singer, violinist or cellist.
During his musical career he has tried out different instruments but decided to stick to keyboard instruments. He plays the organ (Yes... using bass pedals as well!), digital keyboard and the piano accordion. The digital keyboard reproduces the sound of a full band since it follows the chords played by the musician and accompanies accordingly. Jason doesn't use pre-recorded tracks as the majority do.
The acoustic piano accordion is a different breed of instrument... being acoustic and portable, it provides the opportunity for the musician to move closer to the listener and provide an intimate, personalized musical experience thanks to the atmosphere it creates. Not bound by cables or electronic amplification, the accordionist can move freely around people keeping in mind that some people may be attracted and pleased by the music whilst others may prefer the musician to keep at an adequate distance not to disturb them whilst they are actively engaged in a discussion.
A new addition to the instrument option list is the digital reedless accordion. This instrument offers a wider range of accordion registers and sounds of other instruments and makes it easier to connect to an external sound system to amplify the sound. All the sounds that can be heard in the video below are played live. "Musette" and "Flute" accordion registers are used for the right hand keyboard while acoustic bass and steel guitar are used for the accompaniment using the bass buttons on the left of the accordion.
